The Werdenfelserei has brought a breath of fresh air to the rather sleepy Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The all-round sustainable concept hits the zeitgeist of the smart Traveller right on target. Sustainability is not only a big issue here, it is also lived out. The table legs in the Wurzelwerk restaurant are made of old hay racks, the lampshades are made of pressed hay, the beds are made of Swiss stone pine, and each room has its own drinking fountain. With its 43 studios, 8 suites, restaurant, day bar, spa area and rooftop pool, the Werdenfelserei offers everything one could wish for and is in vogue – and above all is unusual for the otherwise rather traditionally oriented Bavarian Alpine foothills.
